Transitions With Dignity
A Six Step Blueprint To Help Your Loved Ones Embrace Change
A six-step blueprint for seniors, and the families helping them, when a larger home is no longer the right fit and it’s time for a more manageable home or assisted living.
Transitions with Dignity is an intentional and action-oriented alternative to “downsizing.”
The blueprint
The six steps
Each step is a chapter in the book. The lines below are Carol’s words.
-
Finding the “Why”
What matters is that you empower your loved one to think about what their NEW goal is, help them communicate this goal, and then put in place the steps to help them accomplish that goal.
-
Preparing to Find a Forever Home, and the Power of a Plan
In this step, we will guide you through selecting your WHERE and determining your WHEN for a transition to occur.
-
Choosing Your Next “Forever Home!”
When you “right-size,” it means that you are planning for the next part of your life.
-
Make the Move
Now that you have chosen the next “forever home,” it is time to make the move.
-
What to Do with the Memories and “the Rest of the Stuff”
No matter if your estate is large or small, it is best to put into writing what your loved one’s wishes are.
-
Selling the Family Home: How to Plan
Now is the time to consult with a real estate professional who knows your market and is someone you can trust.
Who it’s for
Seniors and the people helping them
The book is for seniors who are moving from a larger home to a more manageable one, or to assisted living, and for the families helping them through that change.
I dedicate this book to all the caregivers who are in the process of helping their loved one transition, from a current living situation to one that is more appropriate and safer for them.
Most of the time, it will be a child working on behalf of a parent. However, given how distanced we are from one another, it might be a sibling or neighbor who is helping with most of the work.
